Code Name Type Year Semester ECTS
701002012009 Nutritional Biochemistry-I Seçmeli 2 3 4.00

Objectives of the Course

In the Nutritional Biochemistry lessons where the chemical events occuring in living organisms are investigated the aim is to explain the biochemistry concept, to identify biomolecules like proteins carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids, to explain the structures of these biomolecules and the metabolic processes that they are involved and also to get the students to comprehend the relationships of these molecules between them. It is also aimed to teach the students the skills of biochemistry, to bring the professional knowledge and biochemical data together and to interpret them as a whole.

Course Contents

Biochemistry is a branch of science that studies the structure, organization and function of living organisms at molecular level. On the other hand Nutritional biochemistry investigates the sufficient and balanced uptake of the necessary nutriments that carry out all chemical processes in the living cell and also the events that provides the usage of them properly. The contents of the lesson include; the basic structures, the chemical bonds, the functional groups and chemical reactions of the biomolecules that are present in human organism, some basic informations about the behavior properties of water and the buffer systems, the basic properties of living organisms, the biochemical importance of cells and their organelles, the structure and properties of amino acids and proteins, the identification of some special proteins, the structures, properties and biological functions of enzymes, vitamins and nucleic acids.
